Philadelphia: In the first U.S. Presidential Debate held in Philadelphia, Donald Trump and Kamala Harris clashed over key issues, with Trump sharply criticising the Biden-Harris administration.

Trump claimed that inflation in the U.S. is at its worst, with prices soaring by up to 80% compared to previous years.

He accused the administration of allowing millions of illegal immigrants, including those from prisons and mental institutions, to flood the country, taking jobs and destabilising communities.

Harris refuted Trump’s claims, calling his rhetoric extreme and pointing out that many Republicans have defected from Trump’s camp.

She criticised Trump for preferring to exploit issues like immigration for political gain rather than addressing them. Harris highlighted that Republicans, aligned with Trump, blocked a bipartisan immigration bill that could have enacted stricter measures.

Trump further defended his tariff policies, claiming they had brought in billions from countries like China and insisted Britons would not face higher prices.

Harris, however, focused on the broader impact of Trump’s policies, suggesting that his approach is more about divisive rhetoric than solving problems. The debate set the tone for a heated campaign season as both candidates laid out their starkly different visions for the country's future.
