UK couple poisoned with same nerve agent that poisoned ex-Russian spy Sergei Skripal
A couple named Charlie Rowley and Dawn Sturgess was found in an unconscious state in Wiltshire, England, according to police, they were given poison named Novichok, the same nerve agent that was given to former-Russian spy Sergei Skripal. They are presently in a critical condition.
Police have not confirmed if the couple was targeted but an emergency meeting in this connection is being organised the government. The case has been handed over to the Counter-Terrorism Policing Network.
Assistant Commissioner Neil Basu said, "It could not be confirmed whether the nerve agent came from the same batch that Skripal, and his daughter Yulia, were exposed to," However, he said that there can be the possibility. Basu said, "No contaminated items had yet been found, but officers were putting together a very detailed examination of (the couple's) movements."
Commissioner Basu gave a cautionary message that the members of the public should not pick up random things as it can contain the nerve agent.
Home Secretary Sajid Javid said the events follow "the reckless and barbaric attack which took place in March". But added that Public Health England has made clear, the risk to the general public is low.
