Syria War: Human Observatory data reveals 5,00,000 killed in 7 years

On Monday, the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, a British-based war monitor, said about 511,000 people had been killed in the Syrian war since it began seven years ago on March 15, 2011.

The Observatory gets the inside story from the contacts inside Syria.They have confirmed, "We have identified more than 350,000 killed, and the remaining deaths have occurred but we have no victim record."

How it started

It all started with mass protests on March 15, 2011. In the southern city of Deraa, Pro-democracy protests erupted. Security forces opened fire on demonstrators, killing several and triggering nationwide protests. The protestors demanded President Assad's resignation.

The Observatory said that 85 percent of the dead were civilians. Since the war has spread across areas like Damascus.
