Indonesia: As election nears, officials in Merapi secure identity proofs of locals amidst volcanic eruption
With an increasing volcanic activity at Mount Merapi, Jakarta authorities are taking proper measures to make sure the local residents of Central Java participate in regency election scheduled on June 27.
Districts that are affected by the eruption are Dukun, Sawangan and Srumbung, which covers 19 villages with a population of 46,616.
Tavip Supriyanto, the acting regent of Magelang said, " Hope the volcanic activity does not disrupt the election," He also added that he has discussed with the Magelang General Elections Commission (KPU) to prepare for the upcoming elections.
Later the regent invited the local residents affected by eruption to secure their identity documents, like ID cards, family cards.
Since May 11 there have been multiple eruptions in Mout Merapi.
