Sri Lankan Fisherman Rescued

Trichy: In a remarkable display of humanity, Indian fishermen from Nagapattinam rescued a stranded Sri Lankan fisherman who had been adrift in the sea for 10 days.

According to sources, two Sri Lankan fishermen, Austin and Ahmed Irfaan, had ventured into the Sri Lankan waters 10 days ago to catch fish. However, their country boat's outboard engine developed a technical fault, leaving them stranded in the middle of the sea. Despite their best efforts, they could not repair the engine.

Austin, in a desperate bid to seek help, took a fuel tank and swam towards the Sri Lankan coast, while Ahmed stayed back and raised an alarm for help. Meanwhile, their boat drifted into Indian waters, where it was spotted by Indian fishermen from Nagapattinam.

The Indian fishermen, who were passing by, noticed Ahmed's distress signals and rushed to his rescue. They found him unconscious in the boat and immediately provided him with food and water. After reviving him, they took him aboard their boat and brought him to the Nagapattinam coast.

The rescued fisherman was later handed over to the Nagapattinam Coastal Security Group, where he received primary medical attention. Efforts are being made to contact his family and facilitate his return to Sri Lanka. The whereabouts of the second fisherman, Austin, are still unknown.

This heartwarming rescue operation is a testament to the kindness and generosity of the Indian fishermen, who risked their own lives to save a stranger in distress.
