"I am not a thief and will return to Pakistan soon": Nawaz Sharif after being sentenced to 10 Year jail term
Former Prime Minister of Pakistan Nawaz Sharif was sentenced to 10 years imprisonment for corruption on Friday. When a reporter in London asked him when would he return to Pakistan, he said, "I am not a thief and will return to Pakistan soon." He even added that he will continue to struggle from jail.
Both Maryam and Nawaz Sharif were convicted on Friday by a Pakistan accountability court in the Avenfield corruption case, that is one of the four cases of corruption against Nawaz Sharif and family.
This case was related to the ownership of four flats in Avenfield House in London. In the same case daughter, Maryam Sharif has been sentenced to seven years in prison. Court has ordered immediate confiscation of property.
Sharif and daughter Maryam are currently in London attending to ailing Kulsoom Nawaz, wife of Nawaz Sharif. Last year, she was diagnosed with throat cancer and went for better treatment to London.
Sharif requested the verdict to come a week later when he returns to Pakistan but the court dismissed his plea and announced it yesterday. He even said, "Wanted to hear the judgement of the case while standing in the courtroom where he endured more than 100 hearings."
