A win for Donald Trump: Judge Amy Coney Barrett confirmed to US Supreme Court
In a significant victory for President Donald Trump, Judge Amy Coney Barrett has been confirmed to the Supreme Court by the US Senate.
Republicans voted 52-48 to approve Judge Amy Coney and managed to overcome the unified opposition of Democrats.
She took the oath of office at the White House alongside President Trump.
Judge Amy Coney appointment ensures 6-3 conservative majority in the US Supreme Court for a long time to come.
Judge Barrett is the third justice appointed by the Republican president, after Neil Gorsuch in 2017 and Brett Kavanaugh in 2018.
Democrats had argued for weeks that the position should be filled by the nominee of the winner of the 3 November presidential elections.
The vacancy was created after the death of Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg, a liberal icon who died last month.
