Yusuf Memon 1993 Mumbai serial blasts convict, brother of absconding accused Tiger Memon, dead
A 1993 Mumbai serial blasts case convict and a brother of absconding accused Tiger Menon, Yusuf Memon died on Friday at Maharashtra’s Nashik Road Prison, said a police official.
The cause of the death was still unknown and the dead body would be sent to Dhule for post-mortem, police said.
Commissioner of Police (Nashik) Vishwas Nangre Patil validated Memon’s passing away.
Although, Tiger Memon was allegedly the architect of the serial blasts conspiracy alongwith fugitive underworld don Dawood Ibrahim, Yusuf was accused of allowing his flat and garage at Al- Husseini building in Mumbai for terrorist activities.
A special TADA (Terrorist and Disruptive Activities (Prevention) Act) court had sentenced him to life imprisonment.
Yakub Memon, another Memon brother who was taken into custody in the case, was hanged in 2015.
Not less than 250 persons were killed and hundreds were injured when 12 blasts ripped through Mumbai city on 12th March, 1993.
