In a tragic incident, a 19-year-old youth allegedly killed his 24-year-old live-in partner in Mumbai in Maharashtra on Thursday (May 27).

However, the police managed to nab the accused teenager within 24 hours of the occurrence of the murder. The cops arrested the teenager when he was trying to flee to West Bengal.

The incident took place within the jurisdiction of Andheri Police in Mumbai.

The deceased woman was identified as Jyoti Gawde (24) while her lover identified as Niyaz Ansari. Both work as garbage collectors and lived on the roadside in the Mira Road area, timesnownews.com reported.

The duo travelled every day to collect the garbage from the city.

On May 27, the couple, along with another couple reached Andheri (East) neighbourhood.

Over some petty issue, Ansari chased Gawde into a public men’s washroom below the Metro Rail Station. He locked the bathroom from inside the toilet and banged Gawde’s head on the water tap, leading to injuries that resulted her death, according to The Times of India.

After killing her, Ansari fled from the spot. Another washroom worker alerted the police about the incident. Police scanned the CCTV footage and traced the other couple who had accompanied Gawde and Ansari to Andheri.

With the help of CCTV footage, police track the couple first who provided them a lead about Ansari. The cops nabbed the Ansari and suspected that he had killed Gawde by banging her head on the water tap, the report quoted senior inspector Vijay Belhge as saying.

Police arrested Ansari from his hideout in the Jogeshwari area on Friday while he was trying to flee to West Bengal.
