Woman found living with decomposed body of her father for days; spine-chilling deets inside

In a shocking incident, a woman was found living with her father’s dead body in the Sarsuna area of Behala in Kolkata, West Bengal.

The incident came to light when local residents complained of foul smell spread from the decomposed body.

The 51-year-old woman identified as Nilanjana Chatterjee who was living with the dead body of her 86-year-old father Rabindranath at a flat on Rakhal Mukherjee Road.

Shockingly, this is not the first time when the woman lived with the corpse of a family member, Times of India reported.

Earlier, Nilanjana also lived with the decomposed body of her mother and brother in the last one year.

As per media reports, the woman’s brother had died in February last year while her mother died five months later. Nilajana didn’t cremate the dead bodies and continued to live with them.

Some reports claimed that the 51-year-old woman along with her father and mother Chhaya had lived with his brother's corpse for two days. When her mother died Nilanjana and her father had spent two days with Chhaya’s body.

On Wednesday, local residents were informed Sarsuna police after severe stench emanated from Nilanjan’s flat.

Police reached the spot and then recovered the dead body and also sent it for postmortem.

"It seems Rabindranath was bedridden for a one-and-a-half year and the family survived on the ration given by the locals,” the police said.

The flat condition of the family was in very bad shape. According to the Deputy Commissioner (Behalal) Nilanjan Biswas, the family seemed to be suffering from mental illness because of which Nilanjana was habitual of living with the corpse.

Meanwhile, the police are waiting for the autopsy report to find out the time of death.
