Video shows people shaking Morbi bridge, moments before tragedy
A day after British-era bridge in Gujarat’s Morbi collapsed, CCTV footage has surfaced showing people jumping and running on it.
In the 35-second video footage, all that can be seen is a crowd crowding the bridge and shaking it to scare tourists. The cable bridge can be seen swaying left to right before it came crashing down.
Here’s the video:

The bridge had recently reopened for the public after remaining closed for renovation work for seven months. The state information department said that five teams of NDRF, six platoons of SDRF, a team of Air Force, two columns of Army, and two teams of Indian Navy apart from local rescue teams were involved in the operation that continued through the night.
Following the tragic incident, Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel rushed to Morbi to personally overlook the rescue operations and medical services. He also announced an ex gratia of Rs 4 lakh to the kin of the deceased and Rs 50,000 financial help to those injured in the accident. The chief minister is likely to camp in Morbi till the rescue operations are not over.
