UP: Ward boy rapes girl patient in ICU, threatens her with poison injection
In a horrifying incident in the middle of the COVID-19 pandemic, a girl patient was allegedly raped in ICU by ward boy of a hospital in Uttar Pradesh’s Meerut district. The incident came about after the ward boy allegedly drugged the girl in the ICU.
According to a report in Hindi daily Hindustan, a complaint has been lodged at the local police station and the accused has been apprehended.
The 18-year-old victim, a resident of Majidnagar, was admitted to the Care Nursing Home on 27th May after she had a fever. The victim alleged that the ward boy drugged her with a injection in the ICU and then raped her at around 3 am. He also threatened the girl with a poison injection if she spoke about the crime to anyone.
The horrific incident became known after the victim told her ordeal to her brother's wife. Later, the family registered a complaint at the Lisari Gate police station.
Acting on the complaint, the cops took the accused identified as Qasim into their custody, a resident of Ghosipur village in Kharkhauda. Police are interrogating the accused.
Following the incident, the victim's cousin brother reached the hospital and watched the CCTV footage where the accused could be seen 'molesting' the patient. However, after the molestation, the cameras mysteriously get turned off for 40 minutes. There is suspicion that the accused may have turned off the cameras.
There have been claims that the local SHO misguided the Circle Officer Amit Rai telling him there was no complaint filed by the victim's family even with a written complaint in the police station.
According to the report, local police gave full opportunity to the accused for a compromise. The people from the accused's side also reportedly pressurised the victim's family for settlement.
