UP Shocker: BJP MLA booked for harassing woman, son for rape
In what was a shocking incident reported from Uttar Pradesh, the Agra Police has lodged an FIR against BJP leader Chotte Lal Verma and his son, identified as Laxmi Kant Verma, after a woman accused the MLA's son of rape, assault, and harassment.
The MLA has been booked for allegedly harassing the woman. The BJP MLA has not been accused of rape or sexual harassment by the complainant.
The woman complainant, who is in her 30s, said in her complaint that she is a friend of MLA's daughter and has been visiting his Agra residence since she was 17 years old. In 2003, the woman was introduced to Laxmi Kant Verma. She claimed that the MLA's son invited her at his residence, laced her drink, and raped her.
As maintained by the woman complainant, Laxmi Kant Verma recorded videos of the act, threatened to kill, and assaulted her. He also allegedly promised to marry her.
Later, the woman claimed, Laxmi Kant Verma married her at a temple and subsequently forced her to have an abortion many times.
However, in 2006, when she had gone to Jalandhar, MLA Chotte Lal got his son married to a different girl. The woman claimed that harassment carried on, and the MLA's son even coerced her to sign divorce papers.
On the basis of the complaint, Laxmi Kant Verma has been charged under sections 376 (punishment for rape), 313 (causing miscarriage without woman’s consent), 323 (punishment for voluntarily causing hurt), 504 (intentional insult with intent to provoke breach of the peace), 506 (punishment for criminal intimidation), 494 (marrying again during the lifetime of a husband or wife), and 328 (causing hurt by means of poison) of the Indian Penal Code [IPC].
