UP: Monkeys attack lab technician, run away with samples of suspected coronavirus patients

In an outlandish incident, a group of monkeys on Friday ran away with Covid-19 test samples from Uttar Pradesh’s Meerut Medical College.

The group of monkeys ambushed a lab technician who was holding samples of suspected crornavirus patients and was taking it for testing, the monkeys snatched three samples from him and ran away.


The incident happened inside the compound of the Meerut Medical College. While doctors have once again collected samples for the three patients, there is panic in the area as the suspected samples are still with the monkeys.

A video of the incident has gone viral on the internet.

According to a doctor at the Meerut Medical College, monkeys in the area are serial offenders and this is not the first time that such incident has taken place.

In the video which has gone viral, one of the monkeys could be seen chewing the sample collection kit. The doctor said that he has sent the clip to the Chief Superintendent Dheeraj Balyyan for further probe into the matter.

Dheeraj Balyan has put out a statement on the matter as well. He confirmed that the monkeys snatched the samples of suspected Covid-19 patients and that the monkeys have not even been caught even after notifying the forest department.

Meerut district officer Anil Dhingra stated that investigation into the matter is underway.
