UP: Man sets ablaze his pregnant wife after she opposes to his extramarital affair
In a shocking episode reported from Uttar Pradesh’s Unnao district, a man allegedly set ablaze his wife, who was nine months pregnant, after she raised objection to his illicit love affair. The incident took place on Wednesday.
The accused, identified as Akhilesh Nishad, married Anjali, a resident of Nawabganj in Kanpur, around 12 years ago. On Wednesday, Nishad left home with Anjali, saying that he was taking her to a doctor for medical checkup. He took her to an isolated area, where he allegedly battered her with bricks and then set her ablaze using an inflammable liquid, police said.
The following morning, locals from the area found a woman’s charred body surrounded by stray dogs in an unoccupied plot. After this, the police were called. Subsequent inquiries brought forth the victim’s identity, as per a report by The Times of India.
The accused man’s father, said that his son was in an illicit relationship with another woman. Everytime Anjali objected to his illicit affair, Nishad would subject her to harassment, accused man’s father added.
“We are in the process of registering an FIR under the relevant section of the IPC. Statements of the deceased’s family were being recorded. Prima facie it appears to be a murder over an extramarital affair,” the report quoted ASP Vinod Kumar Pandey as saying.
The accused is currently on the run, the ASP said, adding that efforts are being made to arrest him.
