UP Horror: Man shoots sister dead after she elopes with boyfriend

In a deplorable incident of honour killing reported from Uttar Pradesh’s Meerut district, a man gunned down his sister after she ran away with her paramour. The accused has been identified as Shekhar, who is 20-years of age.

The disturbing episode happened in Chhur which comes under the jurisdiction of Sardhana police station in Uttar Pradesh on 18th June. The girl was shot dead days after she was brought back home from Mathura district. The victim has been identified as Anjali.

According to a report by Hindi daily Hindustan, there was purported tension in the girl's family since she was handed over to her parents by Mathura police.

"The 16-year-old girl had eloped with her boyfriend identified as Gauran on June 13. Gaurav is a resident of another village. The girl's family immediately reported her disappearance at the local police station following which a hunt was launched to trace the girl. On June 14, the girl's family informed Sardhana police about her return," the report quoted SP Keshav Kumar as saying.

On Saturday, the victim was working at home when her brother took out a pistol and shot her in the neck. The accused ran away from the crime spot after carrying out the murder.

The victim’s uncle, identified as Amarpal has registered a police compliant against his nephew Shekhar. It is said that Anjali wanted to tie the knot with Gaurav but her brother opposed this relationship. Earlier, there was a feud between the two over the same matter.

Sardhana SHO said police are making every effort to trace and arrest the accused. According to the police, Gaurav and Anjali met eachother in Chhur village as the youth used to visit his grandparents in the village. Anjali was also a distant relative of Gaurav.
