UP: Cop wearing PPE faints while screening devotees at Sri Krishna Janmasthan Temple in Mathura
A policeman on duty got collapsed while he was screening the devotees at the Sri Krishna Janmasthan in Mathura on Monday.
Reportedly, he fainted due to the personal protective equipment (PPE) kit that he was wearing while screening the people for the last two hours in the scorching heat. He had been admitted to the hospital on Monday.
Soon after, the other five cops on duty also removed their PPE kits as they also felt discomfort while wearing the kit.
However, the temple has been opened on June 8 after over two months of nationwide lockdown due to the coronavirus pandemic.
According to the reports in Times of India, the temple recorded a footfall of 500 as opposed to up to 30,000 devotees it used to witness before March.
In an attempt to maintain the coronavirus guidelines, half a dozen policemen have been deployed at the temple to check the temperature of passengers were in PPE Kits.
Due to the 41 degree Celsius temperature, cops were started complaining of uneasiness and sweating because of the PPE kit.
The policeman identified as Sushil Kumar (24), who was taking the temperature of devotees at the gate of the temple got collapsed.
Kumar told TOI, “I remember feeling uncomfortable and out of breath. When I gained consciousness, I was at the hospital. The doctors told me that I had fallen unconscious due to the heat and I was administered glucose.”
“PPEs may be suitable for those working in an air-conditioned environment, but not for us. We took them off after our colleague collapsed,” another cop said.
After this incident, SP (city) AK Meena said that they were looking for alternatives after this incident. “We will provide them with masks, gloves, and face shields,” he said.
