UP: 50-year-old woman gangraped, brutalised; SHO suspended
A woman was allegedly gang-raped and brutalised in Uttar Pradesh's Badaun district, police said. The victim had gone to the temple but never returned home. The autopsy report of the woman established rape, injury in her private parts, and fracture in her legs.
The police have registered a case under various sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) relating to rape and murder. The SHO has been suspended and two accused have been taken into custody.
The woman was an Anganwadi worker and had gone to the temple on the eve of 3rd January.
As maintained by the son of the victim, the priest of the temple along with two others had come to the woman's house with her body and left before they could be asked anything.
When questioned, the priest of the temple stated that the woman had fallen into a well and on hearing her cries for help, he and two others went towards the well. He didn’t have any phone number of the woman's family and left her at her house.
The family of the victim has held the priest responsible of rape and murder. They have also accused the police of a delay in filing an FIR in the matter. The police were informed about the case on Monday.
The police then registered a case of rape and murder. SSP, Badaun, Sankalp Sharma informed that four teams have been formulated to arrest the accused and assured that the culprits would soon be taken into custody.
