UP: 37-year-old woman dentist hacked to death, children attacked; ex-CM attacks govt

A 37-year-old woman dentist was brutally hacked to death at her residence in Kamla Nagar area of UP’s Agra on Friday. The suspect, identified as Shubham Pathak, was arrested by the police after a brief exchange of fire on Saturday.

The now-deceased dentist, Dr Nisha Singhal, was in her residence with her two daughters, when the Pathak gained entry under the pretext of recharging cable connection. Her husband Dr Ajay Singhal, was not at home at the time of the incident.

As per the police, Pathak allegedly slit victim’s throat with a knife after she resisted a burglary attempt. Before running away from the house, he also attacked the kids, NDTV reported.

After coming to know about the crime, Nisha’s husband came rushing to the house and took her to a hospital, where she died. Police were informed, and a case was filed. With the help of the area's CCTV footage, police identified the suspect and formed three teams to catch hold of him, The Times of India reported.

Saturday morning, he was traced and taken into custody after a brief exchange of fire, police said, the police further added that he has been admitted to the district hospital as he sustained injuries during the shootout.

"Teams were assigned to probe. We traced his bike and caught him. The suspect opened fire on police & was injured in the shooting. He's admitted to the district hospital," says IG (Agra) A Satish Ganesh told ANI.

In the Meantime, former UP CM Akhilesh Yadav, taking cognizance of the matter, slammed the Yogi Adityanath government.

In a Hindi tweet on Saturday, Yadav said: “The state is shocked by the incident in Agra where a women doctor's throat was slit at her home in a busy residential area. The BJP government is busy shielding corrupt officials and filing false cases against Opposition leaders. The government, instead of focusing on advertising itself on television, should focus on reducing crime in the state.”
