Tamil Nadu horror: Preacher sexually assaults minor, held under POCSO
A horrifying incident reported from Tamil Nadu’s Coimbatore district, A preacher from Malumichampatti taluk area was taken into police custody by Perur Police under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act for sexually assaulting a minor girl, aged 17.
The 17-year-old girl was living with her younger sister at her grandmother’s residence. The accused preacher, identified as Stephen Raj had taken a house for rent in the area and was preaching from the residence on Fridays.
The accused preacher also used to visit number of locations in the state of Tamil Nadu and Karnataka in re religious discourses as well.
The accused preacher was taken into police custody after the 17-year-old girl informed her grandmother that when she was alone in the house with her sister, Stephen Raj entered and locked her sister in a room. He had sexually assaulted the minor girl, and when she started to cry for help, he ran away from the crime spot.
On the basis of the complaint registered by the minor victim’s grandmother, Perur Police took Stephen Raj into their custody, and after an enquiry, charged him under various sections of the POCSO Act.
Further investigations into the matter are underway.
