Shocker: Two men pour oil on a sleeping man, set him ablaze to take revenge

A horrifying incident reported from the national capital, a 48-year-old cobbler has sustained severe burn injuries after two men allegedly set him on fire over a monetary dispute near New Delhi railway station, police said on Monday.

As maintained by the police, the victim, who sustained 80 per cent burn injuries, had taken a loan of Rs one lakh in May from the accused for his daughter’s marriage and was not able to return it.

The shocking incident happened early Friday when the victim, identified as Jograj, was sleeping near the railway station, police said.

One of the accused, identified as Rajiv, has been taken into police custody, they said.

The victim, Jograj, in his police complaint stated," I promised that I would pay the amount in some time, but Rajiv was pressuring me to return the money. On Thursday night, Rajiv came there, abused me and also threatened me. Later, I went to sleep near police barricades with other cobblers."

“Around 2.30 am, I saw that a person was pouring oil on me. Rajiv was having a matchstick and set me on fire. I started screaming and the accused fled away from the spot. Later, the other cobblers took me to Lok Nayak hospital,” victim mentioned in the FIR.

The victim is undergoing treatment at the Lok Nayak hospital.

The victim said in his complaint that he suffered burn injuries in both his hands and cannot even sign or use his thumb for the signature.

A case has been lodged with the impression of his toes as a signature, police said.

According to police, the victim is a native of Uttar Pradesh and used to sleep with fellow cobblers near the railway station in New Delhi.

The accused Rajiv has an office in central Delhi’s Kamla Market locality, police said.
