Rajasthan: Woman raped by ex-husband's brother in front of current husband
In a shocking incident reported from Rajasthan's Baran district, a woman was allegedly raped by the brother of a man she had married and later fled, police said on Monday.
The woman was going back home with a man she was now married to along with the kid and her sister when her ex-brother-in-law and four others ambushed them near Chajawar village Saturday, police said.
The guilty party took the family to a field close by. They pounced on the man and tied his hands and legs with a rope. The main accused then raped the woman in front of her current husband, DSP Yogendra Singh said.
The ex-brother-in-law and two of his associates were taken into custody on Sunday, Singh said.
According to the DSP Yogendra Singh, the woman, who was in her twenties, had abandoned her first husband after she was not able to have a child. The woman remarried through 'Nata Pratha', a practice that grants a marital relationship without any wedding ceremony.
As maintained by police, the accused ran away from the spot after the crime after which the woman along with her child and sister managed to get to the main road and sought help.
The passers-by alerted the cops about the crime.
The police have registered a complaint against five people for kidnapping and gang-rape under the Indian Penal Code (IPC).
The women’s medical examination took place on Sunday and her statement was recorded before a magistrate on Monday, police said.
The woman and her ex-husband had lodged complaints against each other in the past and investigation into the cases is also underway, the SHO said.
