Rajasthan: Wife sets herself ablaze after being harassed, husband sends video to her parents
Rajasthan Police have taken a man and five of his family members to custody in connection with the death of a woman who set herself on fire. The husband reportedly recorded the incident and sent the clip to the woman's parents.
This incident happened on 20th November, when the woman allegedly set herself ablaze. The woman was taken to a nearby hospital with serious injuries and later referred to a hospital in Jaipur where she was declared dead on 22nd November.
Station House Officer of the Gudhagorji police station, Dehri Singh told news agency PTI that the husband, his parents, his brother and his uncle and aunt have been taken into custody in connection with the crime. A case has been lodged against them under sections 498A and 306 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) which correspond to charges of dowry and abetment to suicide respectively.
The victim's dead body has been handed over to her family for last-rites after an autopsy was conducted and the police have launched a probe into the case.
A similar incident was reported from Bengaluru's Ramamurthy Nagar in October this year where a man allegedly set his 22-year-old wife on fire. Police officials familiar with the case had revealed that the accused demanded more dowry from the victim and attacked her when she said no to his demands.
