Rajasthan: PM Modi, CM Gehlot to share stage at event on November 1

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will visit Rajasthan’s Banswara district on November 1 and will share the dais with state Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot to pay tributes to tribal freedom fighters at Mangarh Dham. Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel will also attend the event.

During the freedom struggle in 1913, over 1.5 lakh Bhils and members of other tribes who had been fighting the British rallied at Mangarh Hill under the leadership of Govind Guru. It is believed that the British opened fire at the gathering and killed more than 1,500 innocent people. 

CM Ashok Gehlot is expected to reach Mangarh Dham by a special aircraft at around 9:30 am. Currently, the Chief Minister is on a Gujarat visit, where the assembly election are to be conducted this year. He will return to Rajasthan today.

Earlier, CM Gehlot had written to the Prime Minister demanding that Mangarh Dham be declared a monument of national importance.

The region has special political importance as eight districts (--Banswara, Dungarpur, Chittorgarh, Udaipur, Rajsamand, Sirohi, Pratapgarh and Pali ) come under this region. A total of 37 assembly constituencies also come under the region.

Out of 37 seats, BJP holds 21 and Congress has 11 seats. The Bharatiya Tribal Party (BTP) holds two and independents hold three seats

In Rajasthan, there are 200 Assembly seats in total, and the BJP currently holds 71 of them.
