Rajasthan: 16-year-old girl allegedly strangulated, burnt, buried by her mother, uncle in suspected case of honour killing
A 16-year-old girl was allegedly throttled, burnt and buried in Rajasthan’s Pali district by her mother and uncle in a suspected case of honour killing, said police on Thursday.
The burnt body of the victim was unearthed and sent for autopsy while the accused mother Sita Devi and uncle Sawaram were taken into custody.
The incident happened on 19th March but became apparent after more than a month following a tip-off from a police informer, said Superintendent of Police Rahul Kotoki.
As stated by the officer, families of brother Shesharam and Sawaram from village Sonal Majhi in Pali district has moved to Pune long ago where the owned a grocery shop.
The victim, identified as Rinku, was a daughter of Shesharam and was in a relation with a local boy in Pune with whom she had ran away about two months ago.
However, Rinku’s family filed a police complaint accusing the boy of kidnapping after which the Mumbai police held the couple at Dadar Rail Station.
The man was ntaken into custody but the girl, being a minor,was handed over to her family.
A month later when the man got out on bail, Rinku insisted on marrying him but the family refused and instead took her to their village in Rajasthan on 18th March on the pretext of visiting a local deity.
The following day, on 19th March, the murdered the girl and went back to Pune, Kotoki stated, adding that the role of other member is also being probed.
