A 19-year-old nursing student from Assam was allegedly raped and murdered in Bengaluru on Wednesday. The death of the girl gave way to a stir as Abdul Khaleque (MP from Barepeta) wrote to Karnataka Chief Minister BS Yediyurappa, urging him to take needful action.

The main accused has been identified as Anisur Rahman. The girl had not long ago joined a college in Bengaluru and had arrived to the city on Monday.

The police booked the accused under section 376 (rape) and 302 (murder) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) after the teenager's landlord registered an FIR in relation to the matter.

According to a report by The Times of India, "One of the accused- Anisur Rahman- has been arrested and preliminary investigation suggests a case of rape and murder."

Furthermore, the cop stated that it is suspected that the accused and the victim knew each other as the victim's father knew the accused. The cop said that the woman was about to start her nursing course.

Following the incident, MP Abdul Khaleque wrote a letter to CM BS Yediyurappa, apprising him of the case and urging him to take needful action. In the letter he wrote, "She was from Assam under my parliamentary constituency and a student of East West College of Bengaluru...I request the Karnataka government to take all the necessary action against the culprit and urge you to arrest all the culprits as soon as possible."
