BJP leader Anurag Thakur, questioned on his ‘Goli Maaro’ speech which came up during a court hearing on the Delhi violence, was rescued from a response by Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman.

Durring a press conference by Nirmala Sitharaman and her team on Wednesday, a reporter asked a question on the High Court’s remark on hate speeches by four BJP leaders, which includes Anurag Thakur.

The Union Finance Minsiter firmly closed down the query. "No reaction here. No... I am here to address that question please. No reaction. Today's meeting is purely concentrating on what we have done with the bankers," Niramala Sitharaman interjected, as Anurag Thakur remained silent by her side.

At a court proceeding on Wednesday, the High Court had asked the Delhi Police why no First Information Report had been lodged against Thakur and three other BJP leaders for their speeches.

Anurag Thakur, during the campaign for the Delhi polls, was filmed advocating slogans of ‘Desh ke gaddaron ko, goli maaro’ at a rally for the BJP candidate.

The videos of the hate speeches were played in the courtroom.

The High Court stated it would take up every single recording where anyone had stimulated violence in the national capital and would not let a repeat of the 1984 take place. "This city has seen more than enough violence. No more," said the judges.

"We want peace to prevail. We do not want the city to witness another 1984 riots. This city has seen enough violence and anguish. Let it not repeat 1984," they said.

The Delhi High Court ordered the Delhi Police to scrutinize the clip and take a decision on action, urging the police chief to "seriously consider the consequences" of not filing the FIRs.
