Mumbai: Man blackmails, extorts Rs 2.5 lakh from minor girl, threatens to leak personal info
In a shocking incident reported from Maharashtra’s Mumbai, a minor girl was extorted of money and jewellery adding up to Rs 2.5 lakh by a 22-year-old man who befriended her on Instagram. After the compliant by the victim, the accused, identified as Ishan Patel, was taken into custody by the Amboli police on Sunday.
According to reports, the girl saw Ishan at a party for the first time. In February, the duo befriended eachother on Instagram and started chatting. As their bond became stronger, the minor girl shared her personal information with Patel and also sent him few photos.
According to a report by The Indian Express, The accused began blackmailing the girl that he would leak her personal informations and images. He also threatened to harm her family. Scared, the girl gave him money and gold worth around Rs 2.5 lakh. When the accused asked for more, the girl decided to tell her parents about the crime.
Earlier, the victim went to the Amboli police with her complaint. On the basis of the complaint, the police lodged a case against Ishan Patel under sections 384 (extortion), 506 (criminal intimidation) and 509 (insulting modesty of woman) of the Indian Penal Code, section 12 (sexual harassment) of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act and section 67A (transmitting obscene material) of the Information Technology Act.
On Sunday, the police recorded the arrest of the accused and presented him before the sessions court.
In another incident brought to light from Mumbai, a 16-year-old girl was allegedly gang-raped in Malvani area after she slipped out of her house to attend a birthday party on Tuesday. The police have taken six people into their custody in connection with the crime.
They have been booked for rape, criminal intimidation, among other offences.
