MP: Woman kills infant son by setting him ablaze after fight with husband
A 24-year-old woman, who is said to be suffering from mental health issues, allegedly killed her five-month-old son by setting him ablaze following a fight with her husband in Madhya Pradesh’s Singrauli district on 25th December. Following the crime, the woman attempted to end her life as well, police said.
According to a report by The Times of India, the accused, identified as Guddi Singh Gond, is a native of Sukhar Barhi village near UP border. On Christmas Day, an argument between her and her husband Pushpraj broke out over some paltry issue. After the argument, Pushpraj, along with his parents, left for their farming field, leaving Guddi and the infant son alone in the house. She wrapped the child in a cloth and set it on fire. As the child started burning, he threw him and hid in a pile of hay.
“Other villagers saw flames coming out of the house and ran inside to find the infant burning. The father and grandparents also arrived and took the child to the hospital, but he died on the way. The locals then informed police,” the TOI report quoted Anil Sonkar, additional SP of Singrauli, as saying.
The following day police took the woman into custody under relevant charges of the law and sent her to jail, the SP said, adding that inquiries have revealed that the accused and her husband are suffering from psychological issues.
In another shocking incident, a 32-year-old man was taken into custody for allegedly killing a woman by setting her on fire in Maharashtra’s Byramji town.
The accused had befriended the victim through social media. He had kept her in the dark about his marriage and the fact that he was a father of two kids. An argument broke out between them on Friday, following which he set the woman ablaze. She succumbed to her injuries in a hospital the next day.
