Man shot dead at wedding function organised by jailed ‘godman’ Rampal’s followers
In an extremely shocking incident reported from Madhya Pradesh’s Mandsaur, a man was murdered when a mob attacked a wedding event organised by the followers of jailed ‘godman’ Rampal on Sunday. The deceased victim had suffered bullet injuries.
Godman Rampal is serving life sentence with regards to the murder of six persons - five women and an infant. As maintained by the police, the incident happened in Mandsaur’s Bhainsoda Mandi village.
Mandsaur ASP Amit Verma stated, “At around 2.00 pm, 10-15 people reached there [the venue of wedding] and alleged that the wedding was being performed in a wrong manner. They beat up people present there and opened fire.”
“A man, identified as Devilal Meena sustained bullet injury in the horrific incident. He was referred to a hospital in Rajasthan’s Kota. He later succumbed to his injuries,” ACP Amit Verma said.
A video clip from the incident shows a man in red shirt pointing gun at those present during the wedding function. Others from the mob are seen vandalising the wedding venue.
According to ASP Amit Verma, three people, identified as Lalit, Mangal and Kamal were taken into police custody in connection with the crime. Eleven people have been mentioned in the case, he added.
The deceased victim, identified as Devilal Meena, was a two-time sarpanch of Jamonia village in the Mandsaur district.
Godman Rampal, who owned an ashram at Barwala in Haryana’s Hisar, was taken into police custody in November 2014 after allegations of murders on the premises. He was sentenced to life in 2018 for murder, wrongful confinement and criminal conspiracy.
