Man shoots two women one year after giving 'triple talaq' to wife
A man from Uttar Pradesh’s Saharanpur allegedly killed his wife and mother-in-law on Wednesday.
The incident took place in Alampura village of Gangoh tehsil.
According to the timesnownews.com reports, the accused man murdered two women (wife and her mother) nearly a year after he gave ‘triple talaq’ to his wife.
Though, he was already booked for giving triple talaq to his wife.
The accused man has been identified as Mohsin, who got married to Rukshana a few years ago. In 2019, he gave triple talaq to his wife, following which his wife filed a complaint against him, the Times of India reported.
After talaq, Rukshana returned to her parents’ home in Saharanpur and started living with her mother. On the other hand, Mohsin kept on threatening the woman to withdraw the case. When Rukhsana didn’t take his threats seriously, then he came to her house and shot her dead along with her mother.
Reportedly, both women were hit by two bullets each.
Moreover, the practice of giving triple talaq was criminalized under the Muslim Women (Protection of Rights on Marriage) Act, 2019.
Under this act, Muslim men are prohibited from giving instant talaaq-e-biddat to their wives. Therefore, no men can give divorce their wives by saying the word talaq thrice either verbally, or by texting, sending a letter, or notice. The government of India has already been declared the triple talaq illegal on July 26, 2019.
