Man poses as cop, rapes two tribal girls in AP
In a shocking incident of crime coming in from Andhra Pradesh's Vizianagaram district, a 35-year-old man was taken into police custody for allegedly raping two tribal girls by posing as a police officer on New Year Day.
The two girls were on their way back home after celebrating New Year Day when the man allegedly raped them. The police said a case was lodged after a complaint was filed by the girls.
As maintained by the cops, on the day of the crime, the girls along with a friend left for Vattigedda Reservoir as part of a picnic and were returning to their hostel when the accused identified as Rambabu threatened them posing as a police official.
The accused made a video of the crime and threatened the minor girls, saying the video will be uploaded on social media platforms if they disclosed the crime.
After an agitation from locals in the area, and on the basis of a complaints lodged by the girls, the police nabbed the accused.
District Superintendent of Police M Deepika said that the victims have been shifted to a hospital for treatment. There are 13 cases registered against the accused. The accused has been booked under Sections 376, 506 of the Indian Penal Code and relevant sections of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act.
Deputy Chief Minister Pushpa Srivani also visited the Kurupam area and made inquiries about the unfortunate incident and assured grave punishment to the accused.
