Man kills woman as she encourages son to elope with his daughter

A mother was allegedly killed after she supported her son’s love marriage and also encouraged him to elope with his lover.

The incident took place in Chhattisgarh’s Jagdalpur village on Wednesday.

The woman was allegedly axed to death by the father of her son’s lover.

The accused man was identified as Son Singh Yadav. While the victim woman identified as Soni Bai Baghel, who was a widow. The man allegedly attacked her head, neck, and face, the timesnownews.com reported.

She was axed to death after she tried to convince the father of the girl to let the young couple make their choices and lead their lives. Instead of letting the couple live on their conditions, he felt that his reputation would be at stake if he allowed his daughter to live with the youth of another caste, The Times of India reported.

The investigation revealed that Yadav’s daughter was in a relationship with Lalit Baghel and the two decided to get married as soon as the girl turned 18. The couple decided not to inform their parents fearing disapproval. However, Lalit told his mother.

The woman secretly performed the marriage of the couple and then they left the village. Yadav started searching for the couple and soon came to know that his daughter got married to Lalit.

On Tuesday, Yadav went to Baghel’s house when he was drunk and allegedly axed the woman to death. However, Baghel’s daughter rushed to help her, but couldn’t save her. Yadav allegedly stood next to Baghel’s dead body and ran away when she saw her daughter.

Meanwhile, the accused man is still on the run and police are trying to nab him.
