Madhya Pradesh: 70-year-old woman raped, murdered
A elderly woman was raped and murdered by an unknown assailant on the outskirts of Ollija village, which falls under the jurisdiction of Gyaraspur police station of Madhya Pradesh’s Vidisha district, on the intervening night of 18th-19th November.
The victim had gone to watch over her field crops during the course of watering process, ahead of the sowing season.
As maintained by the police, the accused stuffed the victim's mouth with soil and attacked her, he had inserted a stick in her private parts.
Mahendra Shakya, station house officer (SHO) of the Gyaraspur police station, stated "The villagers informed the police after they saw a mutilated naked body of a woman by the bushes of the field on the outskirts of the village. Family members of the victim, too, reached the spot and identified her".
The victim’s body has been sent for autopsy.
"It appears like a case of rape and murder. The victim was brutally attacked, and her mouth was stuffed with soil. A rape and murder case has been registered against the accused, and all efforts are being made to identify and arrest them," Mahendra Shakya said.
The victim's family told the police that they had leased a land for agricultural purposes on the outskirts of the village, and the victim had been going to the fields everyday for the past few days to take stock of the ongoing watering process, prior to the sowing season.
The incident has sent shockwaves across the village, and angry residents have urged the police to expedite the investigation. The police have interrogated a few suspects, and further probe is underway.
