Lockdown: Baby plays with shroud covering its dead mother at Bihar station
A toddler plays with a sheet covering its mother who is already dead at a station in Bihar, the most tragic visuals to surface from the reports of migrants stranded due to nation wide lockdown.
In the video, the toddler pulls the sheet placed over his mother’s dead body. The sheet comes of but the mother does not move as she had lost her life moments before. As per her family, the women lost her life due to hunger, heat and dehydration.
The video was taken at a station in Bihar’s Muzaffarpur, where the women had arrived in a special train for migrant labours on Monday.
According to the women’s family, she had become sick on the train due to the dearth of food and water. She had boarded the train from Ahmedabad on Saturday. On Monday, just before the train entered Muzaffarpur, she fell unconscious.
After her body was kept on the platform, her son kept playing and trying to wake her up untill another child dragged her away.
According to the Railway Ministry the women had been sick when she boarded the train and the family got off at Muzaffarpur station when she died.
The women along with her sister, sister’s husband and two kids were on their way to Katihar, said the ministry.
"The woman's family members have said she was already unwell. Request all not to spread fake news," the railways tweeted.
Several migrant workers were left on their own after India went into lockdown down in late March. Without jobs or money, the migrants set out for their homes thousands of kilometres away, walking or on cycles, autos or trucks. Many died before they could reach home, either in road accidents or from hunger and exhaustion.
