Jodhpur: In a significant development, the Jodhpur Rural Police have initiated the process of attaching a three-bigha land on National Highway-125, allegedly purchased by the mastermind of a honey trap gang using illegally earned money.

According to police, the gang's mastermind, Mahendra Singh, had bought the land using lakhs of rupees extorted from businessmen through honey trapping. The land was registered in the name of another gang member, Nepalsingh.

This is perhaps the first such action taken under the new law, BNSS-115, which empowers the police to attach properties acquired through organized crime.

The police have started the process of evaluating the land and taking measurements with the help of a patwari. The attachment will be done after obtaining a court order.

Same Gang Behind Three Cases

SP (Rural) Dharmendra Singh Yadav informed that three FIRs have been registered in connection with honey trapping cases at Sherghar police station and two at Balesar police station. Investigations have revealed that all three cases involve the same gang.

The gang's modus operandi is to befriend wealthy individuals on social media, lure them to secluded areas, and then extort money from them by threatening to release compromising videos and photos. The gang has allegedly extorted Rs 62 lakh from two businessmen.

Another Accused Arrested

The police have arrested another accused, Kishansingh (27), a resident of Khetu Hama village, in connection with the case. He is being interrogated, and further arrests are expected.

The police had earlier arrested a woman involved in the honey trap gang and sent her to judicial custody.

This is the first time that the police have taken action to attach properties acquired through organized crime under the new law. The move is expected to serve as a deterrent to criminal gangs operating in the region.
