International Yoga Day: Know why celebrated on June 21
International Yoga Day is commemorated on 21st June on all parts of the world. It was first observed in 2015. the United Nations General Assembly (UNSC) suggested on 11th December and established 21st June as International Yoga Day. The date fro the occasion was set as it was the longest day when the sun is out on its most as compared to other days.
An exact day for yoga was initiated to raise awareness about the importance and impact of yoga on peoples lives. Yoga came from a Sanskrit word ‘Yuja’ which means to unite representing the unification of body and consciousness.
Yoga is an ancient form of mental, physical and spritiual exercise which helps fulfil mental and physical fitness. Yoga have its origin in India and goes all the way back to pre-vedic period.
Because of the coronavirus pandemic, International Yoga Day, this year will be observed at home via digital media across the world. The theme of International Yoga Day 2020 will be ‘Yoga at Home and Yoga with Family’. Fitness lovers will be able to join the celebration at 7 am on 21st June. People can also post their pictures/videos of doing Yoga with hashtag #IdoyogaatHome.
At the same time, the Ministry has invited entries for the My Life-My Yoga video blogging competition. The contest will contribute to taking part through various social media platforms. The contest will be open to participants from all countries. It was put out by the Indian Prime Minister in May. The contest work towards transformative impact of Yoga on peoples lives.
