As autumn gives way to winter, the Pushkar Mela has returned with all its sparkling festivities and events reflecting the vibrant culture of Rajasthan. The cultural extravaganza will be on display from 28 October-4 November -- from the Kartik ekadashi to the Kartik Poornima according to the lunar calendar. According to Hindu mythology, Brahma emerged as from the Pushkar on the full-moon day. Every year, devotees take a dip in the lake on that day.
The 100-year-old Mela is also one of the largest camel fairs in the world. This iconic fair attracts thousands of livestock traders from to sell their animals mainly camels.The fair has also been seeing a steady rise in the number of foreign tourists year on year.
Situated to the northwest of Ajmer in Rajasthan, Pushkar is the place with abundance of culture, tradition and a home to a legacy of architectural heritage. It is located at a height of 510 metres and is bordered by hillocks on the three sides.
