Gurugram Badminton Academy Murder: Drunk men in SUV thrash UP migrant worker to death with rods
In a shocking incident reported from Gurugram, a migrant worker from Uttar Pradesh was thrashed to death at a Badminton Academy at Sector 37 of the city. The victim, identified as Anuj Kumar, aged 21, who worked as housekeeping staff. The 21-year-old was beaten to death using sticks and rods and later succumbed to his injuries.
The victim along with his brother-in-law, identified as Sanjay had left his rented home on Monday in order to work at a residential area in Sector 37.
As maintained by Sanjay, they arrived at the Heritage Badminton Academy and were found by few other men sitting in an SUV. Sanjay said the accused were drinking and got angry after seeing them.
"I don't know what was going on in their mind. When they saw us they kept saying that these 'Biharis' must be beaten up. They could see that we were migrants and it made them very angry. They dragged us both inside the cars and began beating us. We were then taken to Heritage Badminton Academy where we were further assaulted," the report quoted Sanjay as saying.
The accused of the crime have been identified as Manjeet, Puneet, Manish among others.
In a complaint to Sector 10 police, the victim said that a woman, who was in the car, accused Anuj and him of allegedly misbehaving with her. Sanjay said the accused assaulted them despite they denying the claim.
Furthermore, Sanjay said that no woman was incriminated in the crime and the story was fabricated by the accused.
Anuj arrived at Gurugram from Jaipur following the death of his father five months ago. In the meantime, Gurugram policehave dubbed as the incident as a case of mistaken identity.
"On Monday, a female player was on her way to the Badminton Academy when two men on a bike allegedly made vulgar signs at her. She called her father, coach and relatives immediately. It appears that the men who came on her behalf thought that Anuj and Sanjay were with the accused and beat them in retaliation. One of the victims passed away due to assault injuries. An accused Binda Prasad has been arrested, while others are being searched for," the report quoted Subhash Boken, Gurugram Police PRO, as saying.
