Gold Worth Rs 2.6 Crore Melted, Hidden in Coffee Maker; Smuggler Arrested

Chennai: In a shocking incident, customs officials at Chennai International Airport seized gold worth Rs 2.6 crore, which was melted and hidden in a coffee maker. The smuggler, identified as Vigneshwaran Raja, was arrested by the airport police.

According to customs officials, Raja, who arrived from Dubai, was carrying two cylindrical objects containing approximately four kilograms of gold.


When questioned, Raja gave evasive answers, leading officials to search his luggage. Upon inspecting his coffee maker, they found the hidden gold.

A senior customs official said, "We have seized the smuggled gold and are investigating the matter further." The accused has been handed over to the airport police, who are interrogating him.

The incident has raised eyebrows, and officials are trying to uncover the smuggling racket involved. The seized gold is valued at Rs 2.6 crore, and the investigation is ongoing.
