Former Union minister's wife found dead in her residence, cops say murder, robbery

The wife of late former Union minister P Rangarajan Kumaramangalam, was murdered at her abode in the national capital’s Vasant Vihar on Tuesday. The police said. An individual has been taken into police custody and the search operation is underway for two other accused, the police added.

As maintained by the cops, the incident is a case of murder and burglary. On the day of the incident, the washerman (dhobi) came to the victim’s residence at around 9 pm. When the domestic help opened the door he gained control over her and dragged her to a room to constrain her.


Meanwhile, two other attackers came inside and overpowered the victim, identified as Kitty Kumaramangalam and throttled her with the help of a pillow. The three accused then ran away from the crime spot.

The domestic help in some way managed to unfastened herself and raised the alarm.

According to the police, they got a phone call at around 11 pm on Tuesday about the crime. A team was established and one of the accused, the washerman, identified as Raju, was taken into police custody. The accused, aged 24, is a native of Bhanwar Singh Camp in Vasant Vihar. He has also disclosed the names of two other accused involved in the crime.

The victim’s husband P Rangarajan Kumarmanglam was a Union minister in the cabinet of former prime minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee in 1998-2001.
