Farmers' Tractor Rally: Peaceful protest turns violent as protesters storm into Delhi [PICS]
In what was supposed to be a peaceful rally of tractors today turned into a virtual free-for-all as protesting farmers entered the national capital, walking several kilometers of the agreed course. Both the police and the farmer leaders did not seem to be in control of the situation as main areas of the city, turned into a sea of tractors.
In some areas, the police tried to create human chains to control the chaos created by the rallyists, but to no effect. In one instance, tractors drove into a group of cops, though no one was hurt.
A huge crowd of protesters congregated in front of the Red Fort, many of those who had been part of the rally could be seen dancing and raising slogans while many others waved the Tricolour and other flags.
While most of the vehicles were tractors, a large number of other vehicles like jeeps and sedans were also there.
At the ITO, a bus was vandalised by the protestors. Police also fired tear gas shells and lathicharged farmers when they clashed with the force. Protestors broke past barricades with tractors at different border points and did not take the pre-decided routes.
