Faridabad: Doctor sexually harasses female staff member, NCW takes cognizance of case

A doctor was accused of sexually harassing a female staff member in April 2020 at a hospital in Faridabad. As per a recent turn of events, the National Commission for Women has taken cognizance of the matter.

The National Commission for Women wrote a letter to the hospital, asking for an investigation against the accused. The NCW took cognizance of the matter after coming across a post on Twitter.


According to the post on Twitter, the women who had registered a complaint in relation to the incident. The complaint was lodged on 19th April this year. The alleged incident happened in this hospital.

Other female staff of the same hospital had also made similar types of complaints against the accused doctor. Regardless of repeated complaints, no firm action was taken. The TOI reported. Allegedly the authorities of the hospital demoted the complainant.

The letter written by the NCW said, "Considering the gravity of the matter, the commission has written to the director of the hospital, whether the internal committee is inquiring into the complaint, and also asked what action has been taken against the accused if found guilty, and a detailed action taken report must be sent to the commission at an early date. "

NCW stated that the incident happened even after the passing of Sexual Harassment of Women at Workplace Act 2013. This particular Act aim to protect the rights of women working in a professional environment. It was passed in the Lok Sabha on 3 September 2012. It was passed in the Rajya Sabha on February 26, 2013.
