Facebook interaction, love, and murder; woman family targets husband

The an incident of crime reported from Uttar Pradesh’s Meerut district, the daughter of a trader in Lucknow has disappeared from her in-laws house in Sardhana tehsil. The family of the victim has complained to UP DGP claiming their daughter was killed by her husband.

The police have been instructed to investigate the death of the woman. For the past 15 days, the woman's mobile phone was switched off and her social media account has been  deactivated. The husband and in-laws of the victim are on the run.


The victim, identified as Rubi Gupta did love marriage with Deepak Nirala from Sardhana about four years ago. The couple had met through Facebook and then fell in love. Later, the family members of the couple agreed to their marriage, according to a report in Hindi daily Hindustan.

The father of the victim, identified as Ramchand Gupta said her daughter's mobile was switched off for the past 15 days. When he contacted his son-in-law to inquire about his daughter's well-being, Deepak tried to dodge the question.

When Ramchand Gupta threatened Deepak with police action, he told them that Rubi passed away due to illness. Gupta said Deepak's phone is also switched off. Meerut Police are now investigating the matter following a direction from DGP Mukul Goyal.

Meerut SSP Prabhakar Choudhary has handed over the investigation to Sardhana CO RP Shahi. The CO said he is looking into the case and police are yet to find the dead body of the victim. He said he cannot corroborate whether Rubi has been murdered.

The victim’s husband Deepak and his parents are still at large. According to the police, they are searching for the accused. Furthermore police officials said that they are trying to trace the accused from their mobile location and call detail record.
