Elderly woman beheaded over suspicion of practicing black magic

In an appalling incident, an aged tribal woman has been decapitated allegedly over suspicion of carrying out occultism in Odisha’s Mayurbhanj district, police said on Monday.

The victim has been identified as Jamuna Hansdah, aged 62, a native of Balibhol area, Karanjia Sub-divisional Police Officer, Sudarshan Gangoi stated.

Her headless corpse was recovered near the village area on Sunday and two youths were taken into police custody for interrogation, he said, adding the head is yet to be found.

The victim’s family members claimed that she was targeted after the recent demise of a person in the village, police said, further adding she was last seen on Saturday. A case under section 302 (Murder) of the IPC has been lodged.

Further probe in the case is underway, police said.

In another incident, a woman in Uttar Pradesh registered an FIR against a man for allegedly raping and converting her to another religion on the pretext of marriage.

Senior superintendent of police, Bulandshahr, Santosh Kumar Singh said, the woman was in a relationship with the man for the last two years.

"A case came where a 22-year-old woman, belonging to the SC community, was in a relationship with a man from another religion. They were in a romantic relationship for the last two years. The woman wanted to tie the knot with the man, but around four days ago, the man married a woman belonging to his own community," said the SSP.

“The woman registered a police complaint against the man for rape, use of foul language, Prohibition of Unlawful Religious Conversion Ordinance, 2020, and Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe (Prevention of Atrocities) Act, 1989," SSP added.

Furthermore, the SSP stated that a case has been registered against the man and the investigation is in progress.
