Doctor steals girlfriend's ancestral gold jewellery

A 35-year-old man has been arrested for allegedly stealing gold jewellery from his beau in Maharashtra’s Mumbai on Tuesday.

Reportedly, the accused was in a relationship with the woman for several months. He has been identified as Sourabh Thakur, a resident of Panvel.

The accused man posed as a police officer and a doctor.

The 32-year-old woman, who works as an IT professional approached the police and registered a complaint against the man after she didn’t find her ancestral jewellery.

The Ghatkopar police arrested Thakur on Tuesday. Meanwhile, police are looking into his past and scanning his educational documents and occupation.

The victim met the fraud man via a dating app last year. According to the Times of India, they started chatting as their profiles matched.

As per timesnownews.com reports, the accused once told the techie that he wanted to meet her parents. At his request, the woman called him to her home in Ghatkopar. Once the man reached the woman’s home, he told her that he forgot the gift in the car and asked her to bring it, the report quoted Prashant Kadam, Zonal Deputy Commissioner.

After four days, the woman came to know that her mother’s ancestral jewellery was missing from home. She then suspected that the gold ornaments had been stolen.

The 32-year-old also recalled that no one had visited the apartment except Sourabh Thakur.

After her theft suspicion was confirmed, the techie approached the police and lodged the complaint against Sourabh Thakur.

During the investigation, it was found that gold jewellery worth Rs 6.5 lakh was stolen by the accused.

According to a police official, the hi-end car with a police log on the front end has been seized by police. The car also had a beacon on the top. It was also revealed that he is not a policeman and has used the car for impersonation. Also, an ID card from the home minister’s office recovered from him.

Meanwhile, cops will verify the profile that he shared on a job-oriented website which claims that he is an endocrinologist with the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR).
