Delhi obsessed with child pornography: US alert for India; Maharashtra, Gujarat, UP among top offenders
Reports on child pornography have been submitted by the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children (NCMEC) in the US have revealed some eye-opening facts related to the child pornography material on the Internet in India.
The reports have been submitted to the National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB) which claimed that over 25,000 cases of suspected child pornography material have been uploaded on the Internet in the past five months.
The surprising records showed the name of the states which have topped the list of uploading Child Sexual Abuse Material (CASM) over the Internet.
According to the reports, Delhi has topped the list of states involved in uploading the content related to child pornography on the Internet. The data is released up to January 23, 2020.
While the other states listed in the list of child pornography-related material are Maharashtra, Gujarat, Uttar Pradesh, and West Bengal, the Indian Express quoted a home ministry officials as saying.
A state-wise breakup data of all states involved were not readily available, however, it was reported that the details of 1,700 cases were passed on to the cyber unit of the state by the NCRB.
Reports also suggested that several FIRs have been registered on the basis of reports provided by the NCMEC, the home ministry official said. Also, Police have arrested various people involved in the same.
According to the Home Ministry official, "We signed an agreement with NCMEC last year following which they have started sending us their Tipline reports on child pornography videos being uploaded online. As of January 23, we have received over 25,000 such reports over the past five months that we have sent to states across the country."
