Delhi: 35-year-old man stabbed to death over price of chicken in Jahangirpuri area

A 35-year-old man was stabbed to death allegedly by four people following an altercation over the price of chicken in Delhi’s Jahangirpuri area on Wednesday, said police.

The victim, identified as Shiraz, hailed from West Bengal’s Kesharpur Jaipai village in Madinapur district where he used to sell fish. He began selling chicken in shanties in his area recently for a living amid nationwide lockdown.

According to the police, man had set up a small cart outside his house to sell chicken. In the meantime, the accused came there and asked for the price of chicken. As the victim quoted the price, the accused began arguing with him and allegedly he was selling the chicken at a higher price than that of the market.

The police was notified about the occurrence approximately about 4 pm.

"On reaching the spot, it was revealed that Shiraz, was stabbed by one Shah Alam and his brothers. When Shiraz was selling chicken in jhuggis, some argument occurred between him and alleged Shah Alam over the price of chicken," Vijayanta Arya, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Northwest), said.

Later, Alam’s three brothers too came there and they allegedly began an assault with knife and iron rods, she said.

He was rushed to the Sanjay Gandhi Hospital in Mangolpuri, where he was declared dead on arrival, the DCP said.

A case has been lodged in this matter, further adding that Shah Alam has been taken into custody and efforts are underway to arrest other accused.
