Dadra and Nagar Haveli: Rape victim's father commits suicide after man slits throat of minor girl for resisting rape
In a shocking incident reported from a village in Union Territory of Dadra and Nagar Haveli, a man (30) slit the throat of a 4-year-old girl when she withstood his bid to rape her, the accused put her body in a sack and disposed it into a narrow shaft in his house, police said, further adding that the accused has been taken into custody.
Not able to cope with the grief, the father of the victim killed himself by consuming a disinfectant, a day following the incident on Saturday, police said.
"The incident took place on Friday afternoon after the accused Santosh Rajat lured the girl who was playing outside her home in Naroli village," DNH superintendent of police Hareshwar Swami said.
According to DNH superintendent of police Hareshwar Swami, the accused took the girl to his house and tried to rape her, but when the victim started crying, the accused cut her throat with a sharp edged weapon, put her body in a sack and threw it in the narrow shaft attached to the toilet of the flat by breaking the window.
After the victim’s family members registered a missing complaint with Naroli police station, the police launched a search operation and searched around 40 flats in the residential building where the girl lived, he said.
“ In the time of the search operation, the police found bloodstains in the bathroom of Rajat's apartment. A sack with the body was found in the shaft attached to the toilet," police said.
In the time of questioning, the accused "confessed" to luring the girl to his flat and trying to sexually assault her, the SP said.
Not able to put up with the loss, the victim’s father took his own life by consuming a disinfectant after seeing his daughter's body, the SP said, adding that he was rushed to a hospital where he died on Saturday.
A case was filed against the accused under various sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) 364 (abduction), 376 (rape), 377 (unnatural offences) and 302 (murder) apart from provisions of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, he said.
