Chhattisgarh: Minor girl raped, stoned to death along with her father and niece

A 16-year-old girl was allegedly raped and stoned to death in Chhattisgarh’s Koeba district, police said on Wednesday.

According to a report in PTI, the accused allegedly also murdered the victim’s father and her four-year-old cousin, who were with her. The horrifying incident took place near Gadhuproda village which falls under the jurisdiction of Lemru police station on 29th January, but came to be known on Tuesday, after which six accused were taken into custody, Korba Superintendent of Police Abhishek Meena said.

The four accused arrested were identified as Santram Majhwar (45), Abdul Jabbar (29), Anil Kumar Sarthi (20), Pardeshi Ram Panika (35), Anand Ram Panika (25) and shankar Yadav (21), all residents of Satrenga village, reported PTI.

"The deceased man, a resident of Barpani village, had been working as a cattle grazer at the house of prime accused Manjhwar since July last year," PTI quoted Abhishek Meena as saying.

According to the preliminary information, one of the accused (Manjhwar) was going to the man, his daughter (16) and granddaughter (4) to their village on his bike on 29th January.

Enroute, they stopped at Korai village and Manjhwar drank alcohol, following which other accused also joined him, he said.

According to the report, the accused took the three victims to the foot of a hill surrounded by forest near Gadhuproda, where Manjhwar and another accused allegedly raped the girl. They then stoned and beat up all the victims and dumped them in the forest before fleeing, he said.

"When the deceased man's son lodged their missing report at Lemru police station on Tuesday, police swung into action and rounded up six accused following their interrogation," he said.

On the basis of the statement of the accused, police got to the crime spot, where they discovered the injured rape victim alive and two others dead, PTI reported.

She was right away taken to a local hospital, but succumbed to her injuries before reaching there, he said.

The accused were booked under various sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) sections 302 (murder), 376 (2)G (gangrape) and provisions of the Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe (Prevention of Atrocities) Act and Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, he added.
